Alternattiva Demokratika said yesterday it was willing to nominate a representative on the Welfare Reform Commission, unlike the MLP which was refusing to participate.
It is also making a number of proposals for pension reform based on social justice and economic sustainability.
AD's spokesman for social policy, James Debono said:
"AD believes that there is no social justice without a viable state guaranteed welfare system. We want to make sure that any reforms in our pension system are based on social justice. Social justice needs a solid and sustainable financial basis. Without financial sustainability, the rights of future generations will be jeopardised."
In its draft manifesto, which AD will discuss and approve today, AD is making a number of proposals on this subject. These include the establishment of a pension fund financed through social security contributions which would be administered by the social partners represented in the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development, the Auditor General and private and professional management to guarantee efficiency.
AD also said it believed that the Alliance of Pensioners' Organisations should be fully represented in the MCESD.
