Jean Karl Soler, a 42-year-old specialist family doctor from Attard, was recently appointed Visiting Professor at the Institute of Postgraduate Medicine and Primary Care, Faculty of Life and Health Sciences, University of Ulster, Northern Ireland.
Prof. Soler was born in St Julian's in 1966, is married to Joyce, and has two children, Stephen and Victoria. He graduated Doctor of Medicine in 1990 from the University of Malta, and started a career in family medicine in 1992. He currently works as a family doctor and is specialised in occupational medicine.
He is academically active, especially in the field of research in family medicine, locally and internationally. Prof. Soler is currently reading for a Ph.D at the University of Ulster, having graduated Master of Sciences with Distinction last year.
He is expected to make a varied contribution to faculty activities, including taking on the role of module leader for the University's Master of Science in General Practice and Primary Care, and acting as an advocate for the university in the field of international primary care.
Group 4 Securicor recently appointed Kenneth De Martino of KDM Group of Companies as local partner and managing director of G4S.
Under former managing director Yves De Barro, the company increased its workforce from 60 to over 350 employees, acquired new office premises and underwent re-branding.
G4S regional president Andreas Paterakis, said: "Kenneth will take G4S in Malta to the next height and will be instrumental in launching the G4S Security Systems division in Malta. He will continue to build on what has already been achieved."
Dr Mark Anthony Aquilina recently graduated with Distinction from the Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca after completing four years of specialist training in Nuclear Medicine at the San Raffaele Hospital, Milan.
He successfully defended his thesis 'Valutazione dell'effetto del respiro nella caratterizzazione di nodule polmonari mediante techniche dei acquisizione di gating respiratorio', part of his ongoing research project aimed at the advancement of PET/CT techniques.
Dr Aquilina has also practised in the Nuclear Medicine and Radiometabolic Therapy departments at the Ospedale Maggiore (Niguarda), Milan.
He was educated at Stella Maris School, Balzan and St Aloysius' College, Birkirkara and graduated MD from the University of Malta in 2001. He is the son of Roger and Anna Aquilina of Iklin and is married to Denise née Caruana.
Mediterranean Aviation Co. Ltd. (Medavia) recently recruited Roderick Cutajar as HR manager and Peter Hall as aircraft maintenance manager.
Mr Cutajar will be responsible for setting up and implementing the HR business strategy of the organisation in Malta and Libya. Mr Hall will head the aircraft maintenance department in Malta and Libya.
The company's health and safety department will be led by Alfred Fenech. Mario Magro was appointed finance and administration manager; Denise Busuttil Giorgio was promoted to finance and administration manager.
Ian Busuttil, ICT department manager, takes over from Peter Williams technical services department manager.
Claire Abela and Clint Taliana were promoted to section managers within the flight technical and charter brokerage sections of the company's operations department.
