It was with utter incredulity that I stared at the advertisement (The Sunday Times, January 15) which illustrated the 12 proposed faces for the Malta euro coin set.

Giuseppe Mazzuoli's Baptism of Christ marble group at St John's Co-Cathedral and the façade of the Auberge de Castille were listed as belonging to Renaissance Malta!

Not only do these works have absolutely nothing to do with the Renaissance, they are among Malta's foremost Baroque monuments of the 18th century!

I am, therefore, compelled to draw the attention of the authorities, especially of the National Euro Changeover Committee (NECC), to take note of this gross error and rectify it as soon as possible. It is certainly shameful that Malta's cultural icons are abused of in this way on an official and national level, at such a historic moment.
