A 70-year-old man has been left seriously injured after getting into an argument with a number of others on Thursday morning.
Police said that a request for assistance was made in Triq it-Tartarun in St Paul's Bay at around 10.30 am this morning.
On arrival, police found a 70-year-old Englishman injured, after having allegedly been involved in an argument.
The man received medical assistance on-site and was taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance, where his injuries were certified as serious.
Another three men, two English men aged 85 and 72, and a 72-year-old Maltese man, all St Paul's Bay residents, have been arrested by the police.
Magistrate Antoine Agius Bonnici has opened an inquiry and a police investigation into the matter is still ongoing.
Earlier on Thursday, Readers reported to Times of Malta that three ambulances rushed to the scene after a man had been found injured on the street.
At the time, the police confirmed that he had been taken to Mater Dei Hospital but that the nature of his injuries was not known.
A magistrate and major crimes police officers were spotted on the scene.
Members of the forensic investigation unit were on site after the man was removed and could be seen lifting bloody strips of fabric from the parapet of a private residence on Triq it-Trill.
