'Pet Day' activity to be held in Valletta
The family-friendly event will be held at Hastings later on this month
A Pet Day, set to be a family-friendly event to raise awareness on animal welfare, will take place later on this month in Valletta.
The event will be held at Hastings Gardens on April 11 between 10am and 4 pm, which will bring families and their pets together in an atmosphere of entertainment and education.
The event was announced by Parliamentary Secretary for Animal Rights, Alicia Bugeja Said, who explained that on the day, there will be stalls providing information on animal care, as well as fundraising initiatives for abandoned animals and activities for children.
Bugeja Said added that the activity forms part of a wider vision to better integrate animals into everyday life in Maltese society.
“With more than 60% of Maltese and Gozitan families owning at least one pet, it is crucial that we continue strengthening our policies in favour of animal welfare and inclusion," Bugeja Said said, adding that the government has clear initiatives for the animal sector.
“Together with Project Green, we have launched a scheme allocating up to €50,000 to local councils that submit proposals for dog parks or cat cafés, with a total allocation of €750,000. This demonstrates the government’s clear commitment to creating more spaces where animals and their owners can enjoy a safe and suitable environment."
On his end, Valletta mayor Olaf McKay encouraged families to come to Valletta with their pets to the event, which is set to be a great opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy an open space with their animals.
