On the occasion of the international day in support of victims of torture, Amnesty International Malta Group will be holding a petition-signing event at the Sliema Promenade tomorrow between 8.30 p.m. and 10.30 p.m.
Besides the petition, Amnesty International Malta Group aims to raise public awareness, support and solidarity towards victims of torture. Information on issues dealt with by Amnesty will also be available.
Amnesty International denounces torture in all its forms and international law unequivocally condemns it. Yet, it still occurs in the global community. Torture is not limited to any particular political system, it occurs in military dictatorships as well as in democracies. Amnesty International says it has received reports of torture from over 150 countries. Victims are men, women and children from all walks of life.
Amnesty International is running a worldwide campaign called Take A Step To Stamp Out Torture.
