Consumers urged to stop using the soft toy 'immediately'
A plush toy that was distributed by pharmacies as a free gift has been recalled due to safety concerns.
The Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority on Wednesday warned consumers that a dolphin soft toy supplied by the Sterimar brand and distributed through pharmacies was “dangerous” because of easily detachable eye components that could be a choking hazard especially for young children.
“A potential safety issue has been identified involving the toy’s eye components, which may detach and pose a choking hazard, particularly for infants and young children,” the MCCAA said in a statement.
“All necessary measures have been taken to stop distribution and inform pharmacies of this recall,” the authority continued, adding that the “precautionary measure was being taken as a safety measure”.
Consumers were urged to stop using the toy “immediately” and to “dispose of it safely”.
As the toy was given out free of charge as a promotional product, there will be no remedy in this case.
The MCCAA reminded consumers to check the Safety Gate platform before purchasing products in order to verify whether they are listed as dangerous.
