The council of the Institute of Maltese Journalists yesterday condemned the physical aggression on the members of the media who were covering the Labour general conference on Friday night.
In a statement, it also praised the timely intervention of Labour officials, including general secretary Jason Micallef, who calmed down the aggressors and offered the television journalists protection for the rest of the evening.
The institute insisted that journalists should never be hindered from carrying out their work and that political parties had a duty to give a clear signal to its supporters that such behaviour was never acceptable
