Pietà Hotspurs striker Ivan Woods was handed a two-match suspension yesterday for his red card in Saturday's 1-0 Premier League upset to Marsaxlokk at the Hibs Ground.
Woods, 27, was sent off by referee Anton Zammit in the 80th minute for a tough two-legged tackle from behind on Lit-huanian Donatas Vencevicius, of Marsaxlokk.
The MFA Disciplinary Commissioner took into consideration the referee's report in evaluating the case. The panel decided to increase Woods' suspension to two matches after the player was reported to have passed some comments to the opposing fans on his way to the dressing room, an incident which the referee noted and jotted down in his report.
Woods will now skip Pietà's upcoming fixtures against Msida St Joseph, tomorrow, and Balzan Youths on January 11.
Woods' team-mate, Edward Azzopardi, and Msida St Joseph defender, Josef Mifsud, who was sent off against Hamrun on Saturday, are also out of tomorrow's match after receiving a one-match ban.
Marsaxlokk midfielder Etienne Barbara, who was also given marching orders at the Hibs Ground last week, was banned for one match. The Malta international will be out of the south seasiders' key match against Valletta on Sunday.
