The Labour Party has launched a new organisation, Nisa Laburisti, which has taken over from the Ghaqda Nisa Laburisti.

The new organisation is led by outgoing MEP Claudette Abela Baldacchino.

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, who spoke at the launch, said NL will speak out on issues involving women, families and careers.

He said the past year had seen progress in women's participation, including appointments to the judiciary. He said the new President would be a role-model for many women.

He thanked Miriam Spiteri Debono for her work in the Għaqda Nisa Laburisti.

The members on the NL executive are Monica Farrugia, Carmen Ciantar, Nikita Zammit Alamango, Josianne Cutajar, Rosianne Cutajar, Grace Mallia, Marisa Ciappara and Veronique Dalli.
