The Cottonera Rehabilitation Project, within the Environment Ministry, is planning the process of restoration of a painting by Giuseppe Calì in the dome of the chapel of the Crucifix in the church of the Immaculate Conception in Cospicua.

The chapel was built in 1686 but the painting dates back to 1903. The painting is a cycle showing the early years of Jesus Christ. It was last restored by Rafel Bonnici Calì in 1963. Parts of the painting are lost completely and others have become detached.

Italian conservator Roberta De Angelis has submitted a preliminary report and a decision will now be taken on how to save the painting.
