Has the Rabat mayor or his council friends ever walked through Borg Olivier Street during busy hours or do they arrive at their office by car? Are they aware of the dangerous pavements, in some stretches only one foot wide, and the pollution we pedestrians have to cope with?

To accommodate Dingli residents this street has been left two way to traffic. But to add insult to injury our elected representatives have not even bothered to somewhat regulate the traffic.

A speed camera or a couple of sleeping policemen should be installed to bring to their senses those who speed and make this road a race track. We should learn from abroad where traffic passes almost dead slow through small villages.

Most of Rabat centre should be allowed only for pedestrians. The streets are too narrow. A case in point is Santu Wistin Street where one has to jump onto door steps to avoid being hit. Besides, many, if not all, of these roads need resurfacing with typical Maltese stone.

The area known as Ta' Kola reminds one of how the moon must look. Thousands of tourists come to visit Mdina and the Roman Villa wondering if they have arrived in a remote planet.

Strolling through Chadwick Lakes makes you realise how behind we are as regards enhancing our beauty spots. One cannot walk at one's leisure without having to avoid pot holes or water thrown up by passing cars. The Rabat council must wake up because Malta needs good administration in this challenging world. Sometimes one wonders if it is worth the trouble to go to the polling booths.
