A Marsa man was yesterday given a two-year jail term suspended for four years for an attempted armed robbery from a jewellery shop.
Steve Testa, 24, pleaded guilty to the attempt at Solid Gold Jewellery in Bugibba on June 27 last year at about 9 p.m.
He also admitted holding owner Mary Saliba and her daughter Claire Tanti, among other people, against their will.
Magistrate Abigail Lofaro heard how Testa had gone to rob the shop because he had been desperately in need of money and the police had declared he had been of great help in their investigation.
She also ordered that Testa be put under a supervision order for three years.
Police Inspector Carmelo Magri prosecuted.
Dr Stefano Filletti appeared for the defendant.
