Two months after Tara Malou Licari, 17, died in a car accident on the Regional Road, her mother is still hoping her daughter’s mobile phone is returned.

“We are still desperately hoping her phone is found. The iPhone and her baseball cap were both missing from the car she was in,” Lucianne Licari said yesterday.

The teenager died when the car she was in crashed into a wall in the Regional Road on July 19. According to Ms Licari, her daughter’s ID card used to be held in her phone’s protective cover.

The family was informed by people on site moments after the accident that a phone inside the car could be heard ringing non-stop.

“It was us trying to reach Tara as we had only received an SMS from her brother and couldn’t believe it. So we kept phoning her to establish whether it was just a joke,” Ms Licari recalled.

She said a tracker had been placed on the phone in the hope it could be traced once switched on.

Ms Licari insisted it was not the phone itself the family really wanted but the photos saved in it.

“She loved photography and was very good at it. We know from her brother that they were taking so many photos up to the last minute and we want them back,” her mother said.

Anyone who may have found the phone can return it to the family directly, even anonymously, or by leaving it at the Sliema police station. An iPhone 6s or 7 would be given as a reward, the mother said.

“We also searched the site after the accident and even a few days later but there was no trace of either the phone or her baseball hat.

“I have to give this one last push in the hope that someone found it in their garden or on the roadside and perhaps if it’s the phone they want, then I am happy to give them a new one,” Ms Licari said.
