The Nationalist Party said today it is in favour of sustainable hunting and trapping within the parameters of the law.
The party denied what it said was a false allegation by the hunters’ federation and St Hubert Hunters that it wanted to abolish hunting and trapping through a referendum.
The PN said that the Prime Minister only said (at the Big Debate on Tuesday) that he respected the country’s laws. If at least 10 per cent of voters requested an abrogative referendum, this would have to be held.
This was a state of fact unless the law was changed.
The facts showed that the Prime Minister and the PN government had gone to the European Court of Justice to safeguard the spring hunting tradition and apply trapping derogations.
