PN will raise maritime sector's contribution to the economy - Alex Borg
PN leader said students in maritime training courses will be given stipends
A PN government would seek to raise the maritime sector's contribution to the economy, Alex Borg said on Wednesday as he visited Maritime MT, a Maritime Training Centre.
"This sector can not only contribute far more strongly to our economy, but can also offer exciting, high-quality jobs to Maltese workers," the PN leader was quoted as saying in a party statement.
The visit was part of a series of activities related to Workers’ Day.
He said the PN wanted to strengthen educational institutions such as Maritime MT, by giving students a stipend just like students in other post-secondary institutions.
He also suggested that subjects related to the maritime sector should be introduced at secondary school level.
He said that in the coming days the party would be launching an important project in the maritime sector, and it was crucial to have a trained workforce in place.
Maritime MT is a private institution that offers training to seafarers and to anyone wishing to develop skills for work related to the maritime sector.
Alex Borg was accompanied by the shadow minister for employment, the maritime sector and aviation, Ivan Castillo and the shadow minister for education Justin Schembri.
