PN trains young people aspiring to become political leaders

Final weekend session of party's Future Leaders programme kicks off in Valletta

The Nationalist Party is training young people who aspire to political leadership, through three-day sessions titled Future Leaders.

Party leader Alex Borg told participants that young people can also be “the leaders of today – those who can be the catalysts for the change that Malta and Gozo need.”

He spoke to participants on Friday evening at the AŻAD premises in Valletta, where the Future Leaders programme is being held.

The programme began in September and saw participants attend various weekend sessions focused on political activity and leadership. The programme's final weekend session kicked off on Friday.

Participants are receiving training on electoral campaigns, public opinion surveys, PN principles, how to take part in a debate, the role of civil society, Gozo, the economy and the environment.

Following the training, they will intern in various PN structures, ranging from the party's media outlets to its electoral office, Elcom.

The programme is being coordinated by Charlò Bonnici and held with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, a political foundation that promotes democracy, the rule of law and civic participation around the world.

AŻAD (Akkademja għall-Iżvilupp ta’ Ambjent Demokratiku) is the PN’s think-tank, founded in 1976 to serve as a centre of education inspired by Christian Democratic principles.

Borg told participants that, as a young leader himself,  he firmly believes in programmes such as this, which provide tomorrow’s leaders with the skills and opportunities they need to grow.

Participants were also addressed by PN Secretary General Charles Bonello, who reiterated the importance of politics remaining the essential tool not simply to suggest ideas, but to bring about change and reform.

Also present was the Chief Executive of AŻAD, Roderick Agius.
