Police arrest man over discovery of heroin with €13,000 street value

Arrest follows surveillance of 49-year-old man from Għaxaq over suspected drug trafficking

A man will be arraigned in court on Thursday after he was allegedly found in possession of some 100g of heroin with an estimated street value of nearly €13,000.

The police said in a statement that during surveillance of a 49-year-old man from Għaxaq for suspected drug trafficking, they noticed he often frequented an area in Ħal Farruġ.

On Wednesday morning, he was stopped by the police while using a Range Rover vehicle.

A search of the man yielded one block of a substance suspected to be heroin, while two additional blocks of the same drug were found concealed in a nearby wall.

The officers also searched the man's residence in Għaxaq and the residence of a 29-year-old woman from Tarxien. There, police found several items related to drug trafficking, mobile phones, and a considerable amount of cash.

Magistrate Monica Borg Galea was informed of the case and appointed an inquiry.

The man is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Thursday morning.

Police investigations are ongoing.
