Police deport three men, including one found guilty of domestic violence
The Macedonian man tried re-entering Malta despite a Schengen Area ban
Three men were deported in recent days, one of whom attempted to defy a ban on entering the Schengen Area.
The police said in a statement that the 36-year-old Macedonian man had been issued with a removal and return order by the principal immigration officer in February after being found guilty of offences related to domestic violence and misuse of a mobile phone.
He had been expelled from Malta and was issued with a ban preventing him from accessing the Schengen Area (including Malta) for several years, meaning he could not return to the country.
In April, the man attempted to re-enter Malta but was stopped by border officials and immigration police stationed at the airport.
He was once again sent to a detention centre until the necessary arrangements were made for his forced removal from the country.
The police said another two men from North Africa who had entered by sea in recent years were also deported.
They had applied for protection, but both their application and appeal were rejected because they did not qualify for protection.
The police did not provide any more details about when the men entered Malta or which country they are from.
One of the men was detained by the principal immigration officer during an enforcement inspection. The second man was arrested in Xemxija by officers from the roads policing unit during a traffic control check.
