The Police Officers’ Union has directed members not to pay their quarterly €13.98 contribution to the police fund unless they are assured no part of the contribution would be passed on to the committee of the recently-dissolved Malta Police Association.

The union forms part of the General Workers’ Union, which said it was unacceptable that committee members of the former association continued to make use of funds and property to which they had no legal right.

The situation was causing discrimination at the workplace and obstructing the work of the Police Officers’ Union, which was at present the only registered union of police officers in Malta.
