The police are holding six men who were found to be residing in Malta illegally.

Four Libyan men aged between 26 and 32, were yesterday evening found in a San Gwann apartment after the police were tipped off about their whereabouts.

Meanwhile, early this morning, police on patrol in Parisio Street, Sliema, chased a Serbian man who, upon seeing them, first tried to hide but then tried to run away. On reaching St Albert Street in Gzira, the man tried to attack the police. The police fired warning shots and arrested him. During a search in a residence, they found another Serbian man, aged 54.

None of the six had the documents necessary for them to stay in Malta.

Further investigations are under way.
