Updated: Army bomb disposal experts are examining a kilo of explosive material found in a package under a pick-up van in Fgura this morning. A mobile phone was also found in the package.

Neighbours reported to the vehicle owner that unknown people were seen placing the package under the vehicle in December 14, 1945 Road at about 8 a.m.

Soldiers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit fired a powerful bomb-disposal water jet into the package and  then gently removed it and dismantled it. It was taken away for further examination.

The police are examining CCTV footage. One of the suspected men is reportedly identifiable.

The area was closed off while the operation was in progress.

Meanwhile, a bomb warning was also made to the law courts in mid-morning, forcing the evacuation of the building while checks were made.
