Police night checks find 500 overspeeding in two months

One was driving at 159km/h in a 70 km/h zone

Police night patrols fined 500 motorists for overspeeding in June and July, including one driving at 159km/h in a 70 km/h zone.

Checks were made between 8pm and 4am in various localities and motorists were fined for exceeding speed limits by 15km/h.

Another motorist was found driving at 156km/h and a third at 148km/h in a 70km/h zone. Others were driving at 111km/h and 140km/h.

In an 80km/h zone one motorist was driving at 124km/h.

Another was driving at 103km/h in a 60km/h zone.

Others were driving at between 118, 159 and 121km/h when the speed limit was 50km/h.

The police said such controls would continue in various localities at all times of the day in the interests of safety.
