A police officer was grievously injured on Thursday in a traffic accident in Birkirkara.

Police said the accident happened in Triq il-Wied at around 8.30am.

The 25-year-old officer was riding a service bike when he was hit by a Toyota Vitz that was being driven by a 32-year-old woman.

He was taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance.

The police are investigating.
