Police requested to investigate corruption claims

Opposition whip Joe Mizzi made more charges of alleged corruption at the ADT, now Transport Malta, and asked the police to investigate what was going on at this government agency.

Speaking during the adjournment on Tuesday, Mr Mizzi recalled that the issuing of false driving licences had been going on for months.

He said that a driver had had five categories added to his driving licence in just one day - something which was impossible for anyone to acquire. Another case was that of an employee who had allegedly received €800 to add different categories, thus rendering the licence invalid. He also claimed a person had been issued a licence to drive a trailer without first having been in possession of a licence to drive a truck, as is the procedure.

There were also cases of overpayments which were not refunded to clients but pocketed by certain employees.

Mr Mizzi said that the police had started investigating allegations he had raised in Parliament on previous occasions, but they had failed to focus on a person from Żabbar whom Mr Mizzi referred to as the main culprit.

He said he was ready to reveal the identity card numbers of those persons who had managed to acquire false driving licences thanks to third parties, and appealed to the police to start their investigations without delay.
