A police sergeant suffered serious leg injuries after he was hit by a car while on duty early yesterday morning.

The police said the sergeant was part of a mobile unit patrol at the Regional Road near the Kappara roundabout.

At about 5 a.m. the unit stopped a car which was being driven without lights, and while the sergeant and a constable were talking to the driver, a Peugeot car hit both and kept on going.

The two policemen were taken to hospital where the sergeant was found to be suffering fractures. The constable was slightly injured.
