A police sergeant who was hospitalised after suffering from smoke inhalation on Friday evening as he put out a frying pan fire at a flat in Rudolph Street, Sliema has been released from hospital.

The policeman put out the fire, at around 8pm, with a towel and a fire extinguisher before the arrival of Civil Protection personnel.

He assisted three people who were inside to safety.
