Politicians playing down the Libya issue should declare whether they have any financial or business interests with the Gaddafi regime, Alternattiva Demokratika said yesterday.

“We are perplexed by the fact that some politicians seem to be playing down the threats made by the Gaddafi regime, and are calling for mediation instead of a UN-mandated peace enforcing forces. Unfortunately, you can’t mediate with someone committing such atrocities,” AD chairman Michael Briguglio said.

He added: “The silence of some on the Libya issue is striking.”

AD spokesman for EU affairs Arnold Cassola said many attribute the “kow-towing” to Libya in the past years to alleged vested interests that political parties and some politicians might have with the Libyan dictatorial regime.

“Those who are playing down the dangers of the Gaddafi regime should immediately state whether they have any financial or business interests with his regime,” Prof. Cassola said.
