I refer to the article by "A Special Correspondent", entitled "No to illegal immigrants" and specifically to the part mentioning Amnesty International.

I would like to clarify that Claude Bajada is the Press Officer of Amnesty International's Malta Group and in accordance with Amnesty International regulations, he is not authorised to take a stand on behalf of Amnesty International on issues directly related to Malta.

For comments on issues regarding Malta, I would refer you to Amnesty International's International Secretariat. The It-Torca journalist (Victor Vella) in fact later contacted Anders Dahlbeck, who is the International Secretariat's researcher on Malta.

I understand that your correspondent was misguided by what It-Torca published, hence this clarification which we feel necessary to avoid misunderstandings regarding Amnesty International's commitment to advocate human rights in Malta.
