Environmental pollution is the biggest problem facing the country because remedies take a long time to implement, Labour environment spokesman Joe Mizzi said in a message to mark Environment Day yesterday.

He said that air, water, sea and soil pollution had reached alarming proportions and therefore one could not hide behind saying that everything was going well.

Any development had to be carried out wisely and in a sustainable way, while interventions should be well planned, he added.

Mr Mizzi said the squandering of money did not lead to a better environment. This could only be achieved through wise decisions which gradually solved environmental problems.
