Pope appoints new Apostolic Nuncio to Malta
Wojciech Załuski will serve as Vatican's ambassador
Pope Leo XIV has appointed Mgr Wojciech Załuski as the new Apostolic Nuncio in Malta.
Załuski is currently Apostolic Nuncio in Malaysia, East Timor and Apostolic Delegate in Brunei Darussala and titulari Archbishop of Diocleziana.
Born in Poland on April 5, 1960, Załuski was ordained a priest in June 1989. He holds a Doctorate in Canon Law. He joined the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See one month after being ordained and served in Burundi, Malta, Albania, Zambia, Sri Lanka, Georgia, Ukraine, the Philippines and Guatemala.
He was appointed as Apostolic Nuncio in Burundi and titular Archbishop of Diocleziana in July 2014. On 29 September 2020, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Malaysia, East Timor and Apostolic Delegate in Brunei Darussalam.
As the Apostolic Nuncio in Malta, Archbishop Mgr Wojciech Załuski will represent the Holy Father and the Holy See both with regard to the Catholic Church in Malta and Gozo, as well as to the Civil Authorities.
He will also be the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to the Republic of Malta, help Bishops of Malta and Gozo in their pastoral duties and promote and facilitate relations between Malta and the Holy See.
