Portomaso Hilton to host snooker stars

World Snooker yesterday announced that that 2004 European Open will be staged at the Hilton Conference Centre in Portomaso, Malta. The tournament takes place between March 1 and 6. The Portomaso Hilton is a luxury five-star hotel and a brand new venue for snooker competitions.

The European Open will be the fifth round of the new LG Electronics Tour, and players will be gunning for Order of Merit points as they chase the £50,000 jackpot and the title of Tour Champion.

Ronnie O'Sullivan will be defending champion, having won last season's European Open in Torquay.

Other top stars, such as world champion Mark Williams, John Higgins, Stephen Hendry, Ken Doherty, Paul Hunter, Jimmy White, Steve Davis and Maltese favourite Tony Drago will all be in action.
