The Malta Chamber of Planners would like to congratulate the government following the positive result of the March 8 referendum, where the majority of the voting Maltese population expressed its wish for Malta to join the European Union.

This success means that from now on the Maltese planning profession will be in a position to contribute effectively towards the formulation and realisation of integrated development plans which promote balanced regional development, sustainable economic growth, the wise use of environmental resources and the implementation of EU cohesion policy.

Such work can only be carried out within a stable operational context which enables planners to contribute towards the provision of an environment where investment plans can be made with a high degree of confidence.

In this regard the Malta Chamber of Planners will continue with its work to promote further the planning profession in Malta and strengthen its relations with the European Council of Town Planners, of which it has been a full member since December, 2002.
