I agree with Maureen German's comments about Maltapost (February 11). She hit it on the dot. Last year, all of a sudden, my British Army pension began to arrive stamped "Maltapost". For all previous years cheques mailed from England arrived on the exact dates they were expected to arrive and never missed a day.
Last year one of the cheques (stamped Maltapost) arrived almost a month late. So I informed the appropriate office in England that I had not received my pension. When I checked my mailbox the next day I found the cheque had arrived and I deposited it in the bank. I informed the office that I received the cheque.
In the meantime, I received a letter from the bank saying that they had stopped payment as instructed from the UK. I was charged $30 for the service... also lost another $20 to $25 for the rate difference at that time.
I followed on this and asked the UK office to send the cheques along a different route. Now I receive my cheques through The Netherlands... never one day late.
I wonder why Malta shrugs its shoulders at things like post... cleanliness... dogs' poop... hunting... and the George Cross comments. We were never like this in the old times... no never. So wake up Malta if you know what is best for your future.
Make yourselves happy and also save some embarrassment for the people away from the Maltese islands and make them feel proud to say "I came from Malta".
