The Gozo Tourism Association and the Gozo Channel Company have agreed to provide a night ferry service by pre-booking throughout winter.
The association said in a statement that the service would be a boon to tourists bound for Gozo who arrive in Malta late at night, and who would otherwise be unable to continue their journey to Gozo. The service will also apply to tourists leaving Gozo early in the morning.
"This agreement means that there is better access to Gozo, so that no bed-nights are lost by Gozitan establishments. Apart from this, foreign tour operators will be able to include Gozo as a winter tourist destination," the association said.
The ferry will operate from Mgarr to Cirkewwa at 1.30 and 3.30 a.m., and from Cirkewwa at 2 and 4 a.m., although they will only operate when required.
Travel agents will need to book two days in advance with the association office, tel. 21 565171, Mondays to Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon. The price will be Lm2 per person one way and will need to be paid at the time of booking.
