President Eddie Fenech Adami yesterday praised the residents of Victoria for their strong sense of identity reflected in their voluntary participation in cultural and social organisation.

Dr Fenech Adami and his wife yesterday visited Gozo's capital, where they were taken round the locality by mayor Vivienne Galea Pace.

The President and Mrs Fenech Adami started their visit by attending Mass celebrated by Gozo Bishop Nikol Cauchi at the San Gwann Bosco oratory. After Mass, Dr Fenech Adami was taken round the oratory where a number of activities were taking place.

Dr Fenech Adami also visited the Sagona family's workshop where he met the sculptor, artist and decorator Joseph Sagona, whose works are found in a number of Gozitan churches, and his son Mark. The President also met Carrie Zammit, a lace maker, and visited St George's Basilica and the Cathedral within the Citadel. He also visited the La Stella and Leone philharmonic societies.

Mrs Fenech Adami visited a number of homes for the elderly in the locality.
