The surge of pressure when the water supply was restored following Wednesday's power cut has damaged the distribution system, causing leaks, the Water Services Corporation said yesterday.
As a result, the supply was suspended or subject to low pressure in Howard, St Helen, Dingli, Norfolk and Manwel Dimech streets in Sliema.
"The system is somewhat weak and so is susceptible to damage when the supply stops suddenly, as happened on Wednesday, when the reverse osmosis plant stopped operating after the power cuts. In this case, the damage was incurred when the supply was restored," the WSC said.
