A book entitled The Paintings At The Cathedral Museum, Mdina is to be launched by Progress Press on November 18.

The book is one of the most important and prestigious oeuvres to have been produced following the international symposium on cathedral museums in 1994. It is a colossal volume that provides an in-depth and annotated analysis of the 350 paintings exhibited in the palatial splendour of Mdina's baroque Cathedral Museum.

As a Catalogue Raisonné of the Cathedral Museum, one of the foremost art galleries of the Maltese islands, this publication documents each of the masterpieces in meticulous detail, complete with a full bibliography for each monograph.

When leafing through this monumental presentation one cannot help but notice the elegance with which it lays bare the link between the spiritual and the material, following art through the ages to demonstrate that human nature and the challenges that it must face remain essentially the same throughout the passage of time. One is constantly reminded of the Cathedral's motto: Crossroads Of Faith And Culture, quite possibly an underlying theme throughout this wonderful journey.

In a deluxe edition, the leather-bound tome is marvellously presented, doing justice to the immense wealth of information about each work of art that has been painstakingly photographed and carefully displayed in order of origin.
