Fr Raymond Previ, OP, 57, is fighting for his life after falling down a flight of steps in a residence at Zabbar on Monday evening.

The police said the Dominican priest, who is from the Vittoriosa convent, probably slipped.

He suffered serious head injuries and fractured ribs.

Fr Previ was admitted to the intensive therapy unit of St Luke's Hospital.

The Cospicua district police are investigating.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti appointed a team of court experts to help in an inquiry.
