Gozo Bishop Nikol Cauchi yesterday ordained a priest and four deacons at the cathedral in Victoria.

Geoffrey Attard from Victoria was ordained a priest while Christopher Cauchi, from Gharb, Pierre Farrugia (OFM), Peter Paul Sammut, from Nadur, and Dominic Sultana, from Xaghra, were ordained deacons.

During the homily, Mgr Cauchi said the ordination was not just a joyful event for the newly ordained but also for their families and for the diocese.

The bishop said priests face major challenges today because the world is becoming more secularised than it has ever been. But priests should always seek to be inspired by God, the stronghold of those who have faith in Him.

Mgr Cauchi encouraged the newly ordained priest and deacons to follow the example of priests who already lead a holy life in drawing souls closer to God and to the Church.
