Mtarfa day was commemorated by the locality's Dr Godwin Ganado Primary School on April 23. Teachers of the different years prepared activities for their pupils, which consisted of walks through the interesting and historic landmarks of Mtarfa.
The younger pupils were encouraged to observe and note important signs such as the "no bicycles allowed" and various traffic signs. Pupils were also encouraged to note the different wild plants which grow in this village. The walk for the early years ended near the Mtarfa clock tower, where they were served refreshments by local councillors.
The older pupils explored the history of Mtarfa through archaeology, visiting cart ruts, Punic tombs similar to those at Xemxija, and the Bronze Age silo which had been discovered by Ward Perkins in 1939.
In the afternoon all the pupils participated in a competition to create a mascot for Mtarfa, Mtarfinu. All these activities would not have been possible without the co-operation of teachers, parents, school admnistration and the Mtarfa council.
