Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi has postponed his planned trip to Israel and the Palestinian territories, informed sources said.

The trip has been put off because of the unfolding crisis in Libya and its consequences on Malta.

Dr Gonzi was due to visit Israel next week.

The sources said the Maltese government has been in contact with the offices of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, whom Dr Gonzi was due to meet during his visit.

MALTA ENTERPRISE POSTPONES BUSINESS TRIP

Malta Enterprise said in a statement later that it was indefinitely postponing its planned business delegation to Israel and the Palestinian Territories.

The delegation was to accompany the Prime Minister on his trip to the two states.

Due to the evolving situation in Libya, there are various unscheduled movements occurring in and out of Malta International Airport. These are being operated by both commercial and charter airlines as well as military aircraft of Air Forces of various States.
