Robert Abela to contest second and fifth electoral districts

Alex Borg will contest the 12 and 13th

Prime Minister Robert Abela filed his nomination for the upcoming general election on Monday, announcing he will contest the second and fifth districts. Those were the same districts he contested in 2022.

The second district includes Vittoriosa, Cospicua and Senglea, Żabbar, part of Fġura, Kalkara, part of Marsascala and Xgħajra. The fifth district is made up of Birżebbuġa, Mqabba, Kirkop, Qrendi, Safi, Żurrieq, and Bubaqra in Żurrieq. Both are Labour strongholds,

In 2022, Abela received 11,694 votes in the second district and 9,996 votes in the fifth.

Nationalist Party leader Alex Borg, who is due to submit his nomination later on Monday, had already announced he will contest his home district of Gozo (the 13th district) and, for the first time, the 12th district (Mġarr, Mellieħa, St Paul's Bay and Burmarrad).

In 2022, the Gozitan lawyer was elected to parliament as the PN's most popular candidate in Gozo, securing over 6,100 votes, almost as many as Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri, who secured 6,458.
