Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi last week visited the offices of Ernst & Young which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary. The Prime Minister was told that the company is expanding, is dependent on business from abroad and is still dealing with several overseas enquiries on a daily basis as interest in Malta has not faded as a result of the global economic crisis.
Dr Gonzi was also informed that the firm is finding it difficult to employ local personnel and often has to resort to employing people from abroad.
The Prime Minister remarked that the government is on course to reach its target of making financial services account for 25 per cent of GDP by 2015.
During the last quarter of last year, Dr Gonzi said, the financial services sector grew by 22 per cent over the same quarter in 2008. He said he wished to see more students joining the financial services profession.
