They either jump from the ward window, the toilet window or what-ever, but somehow they always manage to give the police the slip and it's really hilarious, for it's not a case of once bitten twice shy. On the contrary, this is the umpteenth time that this sort of incident has happened, and once again the police are put to ridicule.
Yet it seems that the police corps and those in higher authority are not tackling this problem very seriously, to try and stop such escapes, because if they were they wouldn't keep recurring.
In America inmates are shackled to their beds, even while they are being operated on, while in Britain they have extra-long handcuffs so that when an inmate wants to use the toilet, he's still handcuffed to the officer, so that the only way out is through the door, and not the window.
But over here we do things differently and treat inmates with kid gloves and we accept their trust as gospel! I wonder how long it will be before another similar incident comes to light? Maybe an inmate will escape from court - or has that happened already?
