Bank of Valletta and Air Malta will be supporting a series of initiatives by the National Youth Council throughout this year and the beginning of the next under the first sponsorship agreement signed between the NYC and the private sector.
Since its setting up, the council has been supported by the youth secretariat within the ministry of education.
"The National Youth Council is celebrating its tenth anniversary. We are witnessing an important milestone whereby the council's resources are for the first time being supported by the private sector. This will ensure a decrease in the government's direct influence on the council and its agenda, thus ensuring that the council will solely reflect Malta's youths' voice and interests," NYC president Keith Psaila said.
The sponsorship agreement was signed by NYC treasurer Andre' Chetcuti, by Igino Xuereb, chief officer, retail banking at BOV and by John Saliba, from Air Malta.
The parliamentary secretary for youth, Jesmond Mugliett, attended the signing ceremony.
NYC's database is today made up of over 200 youth organisations. The NYC also represents local youth organisations on an international level.
As a full member of the European Youth Forum and as a founder member of the Mediterranean Youth Forum, the NYC is continuously involved in the formulation of policy declarations that reflect the concerns and beliefs of Maltese youth.
