The police are still investigating Monday's hold-up, when about Lm40,000 worth of jewellery were stolen from Italian salesmen at Naxxar.

Two hooded and armed robbers held up three Italians who were about to unload the precious goods at a shop in Naxxar when a Toyota van, that had been reported stolen earlier this month, pulled up by the salesmen. The robbers went out of the van, held the salesmen at gunpoint and snatched their suitcases.

The van used by the thieves was later found abandoned in Lija.
