Of course Chris Ripard is right (March 17), and no amount of histrionics by John Bencini will alter that fact. By their industrial action, the teachers are punishing the vast majority of their pupils and setting a bad example to those whom they are entrusted to educate.
The correct action would have been for the MUT to instruct all teachers to give an extra hour, and during that hour talk to their students explaining to them how wrong it is to use violence of whatever form, either physical, verbal or psychological. That would have been the mark of a true professional.
