Alternattiva Demokratika has made a number of proposals to create a tobacco free culture and improve the quality of life.

"The statistics presented by the Ministry of Health, which demonstrate that 140 people have died because of cigarette smoking during the first four months of the year, are shocking enough. An average of 400 people every year die because of their addiction to tobacco. At least one person dies every day in our country due to tobacco addiction. One has also to consider that these statistics do not include the victims of passive smoking," it said in a statement.

AD made a number of proposals, including a ban on tobacco advertising, more prominent health notices on tobacco products, and a ban on misleading terms used in the labelling of tobacco products, like "light" or "mild".

It also said that employers who permit smoking at the work place should be held liable for financial damages towards those employees who do not smoke.
