The Malta FA league competitions for the 2013-14 season came to a close last weekend.

While much of the attentions were on Saturday’s Premier League title showdown between Valletta and Birkirkara, there was some intriguing action in the lower divisions.

Mqabba were crowned Division Two champions after they beat Siġġiewi 3-1 to finish top on 52 points... three ahead of Pembroke and Fgura who have also been promoted.

At the other end of the standings, Marsaskala failed to retain their status despite defeating Marsa 3-2 in their final match.

The southerners finished third from bottom on 27 points just one point adrift of Siġġiewi.

Kirkop and Mdina will also play Third Division football next season.

Sirens were crowned Division Three champions after finishing the season unbeaten with an impressive tally of 68 points, 13 clear of Swieqi United.

Għaxaq finished third on 49 points and were also promoted while the fourth team to play in Division Two next season will be decided in a play-off.

In their last match, Xgħajra could not go beyond a 1-1 draw with Sta Luċija and finished level on 47 points with Attard who won their final match of the season against Ta’ Xbiex 2-1.

Xgħajra and Attard will now face each other in a promotion decider tomorrow at the Sirens ground (kick-off: 7pm).
